Railway Unions Launch Sudden Strike Demanding Salary Hike: Commuters Stage Protest Against Railway Strike

A number of railway trade unions embarked on a n unannounced strike at 3 pm today, inconveniencing tens of thousands of railway passengers. 

The striking railway unions demanded the government to resolve their salary anomalies. 

Railway engine drivers, controllers, guards and station masters joined the strike. 

However, commutes who gathered at the Fort railway station staged a sudden protest against the unannounced strike of railway workers . 

As a result, a heavy traffic was reported in Colombo, this evening.
